UAB Undergraduate Matching Travel Grants Program
Undergraduate Research Travel Grants Program grants are intended to directly support undergraduate student travel to professional conferences or competitions that give UAB students the opportunity to present their research to a national audience.
Applicants may request up to $300 for a state, regional, national, or international conference or competition. This grant will only be given in conjunction with a match from the student’s selected department, principal investigator, or group. Preference will be given to work presented at one of the three annual UAB Undergraduate Research Expos.
Before applying for this grant please make sure to also apply for the USGA Student Travel Grant. It is good to maximize your opportunities by applying to their funding source and then our program. This way you can also still ask for additional funding from your department, principal investigator, or lab.
Note: Reimbursements can only be made within 60 days of the conference date based on UAB policy.
Eligibility and Requirements
UAB full-time undergraduate students of all majors are eligible to receive a travel grant. Funding may be spent on the following:
- travel to and from the conference
- registration fees for the conference
- poster printing
- food and lodging at the conference
Spending must conform to guidelines for the use of state funds. Please include the statement below in any project publicity as appropriate: "This project is supported by a UAB Office of Service Learning and Undergraduate Research Matching Travel Fund."
Recipients must also complete a one-page report documenting how funds were spent and, if applicable, provide a photo. Recipients are highly encouraged to share news about their presentations via social media when appropriate.
