2022 Symposium Recap
UAB hosted its 40th National Symposium for Healthcare Executives, October 19 - 21, 2022.
The Club, and the picture-perfect autumn weather, provided an excellent backdrop for three days of inspired conversation centered around “Courageous Leadership For A Changing Future.”
Randall Woodfin, Mayor of Birmingham, welcomed everyone to our great city, followed by an opening keynote from Cynthia Barginere, RN, DNP, FACHE Barginere, Chief Operating Officer at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, titled “Leading in a Time of Transformation and the Key To The Future of Safety.”
Lisa Bielamowicz, President & Co-Founder of Gist Healthcare moderated our first panel of the Symposium, “Emerging Trends in a Post-Pandemic Environment.” Our panelists included Ishwari Venkataraman, MSHA, FACHE (MSHA Class 32), Lisa Warren (MSHA Class 28), Lora Leigh Nunnelley and Ryan Starnes (MSHA Class 46). This was a very thought-provoking session. The day ended with a fabulous reception overlooking the city, hosted by Capital Growth Medvest. The second day of UAB’s 40th National Symposium for Healthcare Executives did not disappoint!
It was another gorgeous fall day in Birmingham! We began the day with a very uplifting breakfast keynote by Quint Studer, Partner at Healthcare Plus Solutions Group, titled “Impacting Clinical Outcomes with a Replenished, Engaged Workforce.”
Mr. Studer also moderated a fantastic panel “Workforce Engagement: Putting Care Back in Healthcare”. The panelists included Richard Safeer MD and Patricia Patrician. We were then treated to a wonderful lunch keynote from Dominica Tallarico, B.S., M.S., FACHE. Tallarico, Executive Vice President, Advocate Aurora Health, presented “Creating a High Performing Culture.”
Our next session of the day was moderated by Sarah Goff, Vice President of Operations at Houston Methodist. This panel, “Courageous Leadership,” included Callie Andrews (MSHA Class 41), Tracy Doughty (MSHA Class 41) and John Walsh, MBA, FACHE. The final session of the day was “Returning to High Reliability” moderated by Michael Shabot, Founding Partner at Relia Healthcare Advisors. This session included another great lineup of panelists including John Kueven FACHE, MBA, MSHA, RN (MSHA Class 41), Kierstin Kennedy, MD MSHA FACP SFHM (MSHA Class E45/HQS 2014), and Mujtaba Ali-Kahn. UAB’s 40th National Symposium for Healthcare Executives ended on a high note.
We were treated to another stellar lineup of speakers and panelists on the last day. The first session of the day, “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion”, was moderated by Fawn Lopez, Publisher and VP of Modern Healthcare. The panelists included Anthony Armada, FACHE, Lenetra King, FACHE (MSHA Class 38), and James S. Williams, Jr.
The final session of the symposium, “Consumer Centric Care”, was moderated by Thomas Lee, Chief Medical Officer at Press Ganey. Our panelists included Eric Wallace, MD, Vincent Turner (MSHA Class 47), and Craig Parker. What a fantastic way to end a very inspiring event.
