UAB Master of Science in Health Administration, will be the new President and CEO of Swedish Medical Center, effective August 3, 2015.
Currently Hammett serves as President and CEO at The Medical Center of Aurora (TMCA). HCA/HealthONE says this new position is a reflection of the results Hammett has achieved at TMCA since arriving in 2012. At TMCA, he oversaw four campuses, including a Level II Trauma Center, three emergency departments and three outpatient imaging centers. In their announcement, HCA/HealthONE said "under Richard’s leadership, TMCA received recognition by The Joint Commission as a Top Performer for Key Quality Measures the past two years, while also seeing the growth of cardiovascular, surgery, oncology, behavioral health and wound care programs." Prior to TMCA, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President at HCA’s St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, Texas.
At Swedish, Hammett will oversee the medical center’s array of services, including the HealthONE system’s only Level I Trauma Center and Trauma Research Program. The medical center is the region’s first Joint Commission Accredited Primary Stroke Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. It also houses the first multi-state telemedicine program for stroke and a multi-accredited center for cardiac care.
“I am both honored and humbled to have been chosen to lead Swedish Medical Center,” said Hammett. “I look forward to the important work of building relationships with the many talented people there.”
Hammett is a 1994 graduate of UAB's dual MBA/MSHA program and is an American College of Healthcare Executives Fellow.
