Slovensky MacebearerDr. Slovensky, Macebearer at inaugural SHP Hooding CeremonyDonna J. Slovensky, Ph.D., Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs in the UAB School of Health Professions, has been chosen to receive the 2016 Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama Woman of Distinction Award.

The award honors “women who have made special contributions to their community through civic, academic or professional involvement and are exemplary role models for today’s girls.” This year the focus was on women in areas related to the Girls Scouts’ core initiatives: financial literacy, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and healthy living.

In the notification letter to Slovensky, Tonya S. Mines, MPA, Director of Development for the Girls Scouts of North-Central Alabama, said, “For many years, Girl Scouts have sought to recognize women who have made a significant, positive impact upon their communities and are exemplary role models for Girl Scouts. We are thrilled to honor you!”

Also honored is Neeysa Biddle, President and CEO, St. Vincent’s Health System, and multiple-alumna of the School of Health Professions with a Bachelor of Science in Allied Health (presently Health Care Management) and a Master of Science in Health Administration (MSHA Class 26). She will receive the Frances E. Couch Lifetime Achievement Award.

LaJuana Bradford, Senior Vice President, Regions Bank; Kim Greene, Executive Vice President and COO, Southern Company; Linda Sewell, Vice President of External Affairs, Energen; and Kelly Carlton, Executive Vice President of Enterprise Resources, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama; are among the others receiving the Woman of Distinction Award with Slovensky.

Award recipients will be recognized at a luncheon event on Friday, March 11, 2016, at the Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham.

The Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama includes more than 9,500 girls across 36 counties. Their mission is to build “girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”
