MS in Healthcare Simulation – A Year of “Firsts”: The First Intensive
The inaugural Master of Science in Healthcare Simulation students participated in their first simulation intensive in September 2018. In partnership with the Office of Interprofessional Simulation for Innovative Clinical Practice, eleven students gained hands-on experience designing and implementing interprofessional healthcare simulations, building on what they have learned in their online didactic courses.
Students collaborated on various activities highlighting the importance of practicing communication and teamwork skills in an interprofessional setting. They also worked on enhancing their debriefing skills and using simulation to promoting systems thinking. Throughout the intensive, students were prompted to critically reflect on how to improve patient safety by utilizing foundational simulation techniques.
Throughout the 4 semester program, students will continue to enhance their leadership skills so they can shape the future of healthcare simulation.
