The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Health Services Administration is proud to announce the appointment of Amy Landry, Ph.D., as the new director for the Doctor of Science (DSc) in Healthcare Leadership program. Landry, an alumna of UAB’s M.S. in Health Administration program (MSHA Class 35) and its PhD in Administration-Health Services program (2006), brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role.
Landry previously served as program director for UAB’s MSHA Executive and Residential programs from 2015 to 2023. She has been a valued member of the teaching faculty in the Executive Doctoral program since its inception and has guided more than 30 DSc students as a chair or member of their dissertation committee. Her dedication to excellence in education and scholarship is highly regarded nationally, and her experience in shaping the next generation of health care executives has made a lasting impact.
She will be stepping into the role following the retirement of S. Robert (Bob) Hernandez, DrPH, a distinguished member of the department and founding director of the DSc program. Hernandez will retire at the end of 2024, after 52 years of service at UAB.
Reflecting on her new position, Landry shared: “I have been fortunate to teach and collaborate with DSc students since the program's inception. It has been incredibly rewarding to witness the positive changes this program has fostered in healthcare organizations. I am honored to take over from Bob Hernandez, who has been a mentor to me and a driving force behind the program. I look forward to continuing the remarkable work that Bob and Leandra [Celaya] have established through my service as program director.”
Dr. Hernandez has had a profound impact on both the field of healthcare management education and the UAB Executive Doctoral Program, guiding it to national prominence. His leadership, dedication, and passion for education have shaped the program’s legacy, and his contributions will continue to be celebrated as he transitions into retirement.
