Bill Parker establishes 1st endowed scholarship for PA program
Bill Parker, a 1972 graduate of the UAB Physician Assistant Studies program, has established the first endowed scholarship for the program. The Bill Parker Endowed Scholarship in Physician Assistant Studies will provide scholarships for current and future students – it will be awarded for the first time in the spring.UAB OT Low Vision course earns Quality Matters certification

UAB Nuclear Medicine Technology first in U.S. to transition to entry level Master’s
UAB School of Health Professions Nuclear Medicine Technology (NMT) program was the first in the U.S. to transition to a Master of Science entry level status. The entire educational system is transitioning in response to the expanded demands in the field for technologists that can manage the complexities of blended imaging technology.

UAB partners with IAG to help public service officers safely interact with people with special needs
School of Health Professions has partnered with the Interaction Advisory Group to provide curriculum and training to help public service officers — law enforcement, first responders, educators and more — interact safely and effectively with people who have special needs.

NSF approves UAB Center for Health Organization Transformation
University of Alabama at Birmingham has been approved by the National Science Foundation as an official site for a Center for Health Organization Transformation. UAB was one of only two universities selected for 2016 and is one of only six CHOT University Sites in the United States.

The Albin donates Gossman thesis to UAB PT
UAB School of Medicine, presented his copy of a Master’s Thesis, submitted by a young Marilyn Gossman, to the UAB Department of Physical Therapy as a historical archive. Albin was Gossman’s thesis Chair when she was a student at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio in 1965, when Albin was an assistant professor at the same institution.

University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of Physical Therapy is the first in the state of Alabama to launch the national I Can Do It, You Can Do It (ICDI) program for health promotion for individuals with disabilities. The PT program, housed in the UAB School of Health Professions, has partnered with the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition per the recommendation and encouragement of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Student Assembly.

PT program celebrates 50 years
UAB Physical Therapy program, which began in 1964, graduated the first class of baccalaureate degrees in 1967 before there was a University of Alabama at Birmingham.
On Saturday, May 17, 2014, the School of Health Professions celebrated the UAB PT program's 50th anniversary with a dinner and reception at The Club in Birmingham. In addition to alumni from nearly every class of graduates, many of the founding members were in attendance including Joan Bergman, the first physical therapist hired by University Hospital, who initiated the UAB PT program.
