CEDHARS Director James Rimmer, Ph.D., received the 2024 Richard B. Marchase, Ph.D. Award, in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in fostering interdisciplinary research and a spirit of camaraderie. The award will be given as part of Core Day on January 9, 2024.

The Friends of Richard B. “Dick” Marchase, Ph.D., UWIRC Endowed Award was established in 2018 to support an award for and to recognize a UAB investigator in leading or promoting interdisciplinary research across campus in the spirit of camaraderie that Dr. Marchase personifies.

“I am incredibly honored to receive the Marchase Award,” said Rimmer, UAB’s inaugural Lakeshore Foundation endowed chair in health promotion and rehabilitation sciences. “This isa reflectionof UAB’s continued efforts to support and prioritize disability health research. With NIH’s new designation of people with disabilities as a population with health disparities, UAB is primed to be the leader in this growing interdisciplinary field.”

Rimmer will be honored at the annual Marchase Lecture & Award on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at noon in the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium. The Marchase Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Adrian Hernandez, executive director of the Duke Clinical Research Institute and the vice dean of the Duke University Medical School.

Following the Marchase Lecture, CEDHARS will present at Core & Shared Resources Day, which will take place from 2-4 p.m. in the West Pavilion 1stFloor Atrium.Core Day is an opportunity for Institutional Research Cores and other shared research facilities to present a poster about their services to potential users.
