The Department of Health Services Administration is thrilled to announce the promotion of several faculty members effective October 1, 2023.
FULL PROFESSOR
K. Ria Hearld, Ph.D., Program Director, Ph.D. in Administration-Health Services – She teaches Quantitative Methods in the M.S. in Health Administration program as well as several courses in the MBA program. She also teaches Dissertation Research and Non-Dissertation Research classes within the Ph.D. program.
Haiyan Qu, Ph.D. – She has taught quantitative research methods for the M.S. in Health Administration program and M.S. in Health Informatics program since 2007. She also teaches mixed methods for the Graduate Certificate in Applications of Mixed Methods Research program.
Jessica Williams, Ph.D., MPH, Program Director, BS in Health Care Management – She has over eighteen years of experience in health services research at UAB and teaches Research Methods in the undergraduate program and Essentials of Health and Human Disease (Population Health) in the master’s programs.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
Abdulaziz Ahmed, Ph.D. – He teaches Data Analytics for the M.S. in Health Informatics program. He is also an Associate Scientist at The School of Medicine’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science. His research centers on leveraging machine learning, artificial intelligence, optimization techniques, and computer simulations within the healthcare domain. His research aims to enhance patient outcomes, optimize system performance, improve efficiency, and streamline healthcare processes.
Geoffrey Silvera, Ph.D. – His research interests include healthcare management, patient experience, care quality and safety, and health equity. He teaches in the undergraduate program, HQS, CHL, and doctoral programs, focusing on health policy and organizational theory.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR WITH TENURE
Bunyamin Ozaydin, Ph.D. – He teaches in the Graduate Programs in Health Informatics focusing on systems analysis and design, databases, and various courses in the Data Analytics track. He is also a Scientist at the School of Medicine Informatics Institute.
