The UAB School of Health Professions handed out top honors to faculty and staff at the Faculty and Staff Honors and Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, April 6, 2023. The winners of the awards are:
Joseph F. Volker Award: James Hill, Nutrition Sciences
This award is for the regular, full-time faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in and dedication to teaching, distinctive research and other scholarly endeavors, and/or notable service to the School, University and community.
Beverly W. Smith Outstanding Employee Award: Sarah Peek, Nutrition Sciences
This award is for a staff member who excels in numerous areas such as professionalism, attitude, productivity, efficiency, creativity, communication, and competence.
Dean's Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Faculty: Sarah dos Anjos, Occupational Therapy
This award is for a faculty member who has made significant efforts in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within their program, department, school or chosen field.
Dean's Award for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion - Staff: Deidre Murray, Nutrition Sciences
This award is for a staff member who has made significant efforts in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within their program, department, school or chosen field.
Excellence in Service Award - Staff: Rebecca Lipscomb, Nutrition Sciences
This award is for a staff member to recognize outstanding contributions to the university community, the School of Health Professions or another non-profit organization in the community.
Excellence in Service Award - Faculty: Mohanraj Thirumalai, Health Services Administration
This award is for a faculty member who has made significant contributions to the School or their profession including projects and positions that bring national, state or local recognition and more.
Excellence in Scholarship Award: Muhammad Maqbool, Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences
This award is for the faculty member has made significant scholarly contributions resulting in the advancement of knowledge. Contributions include funded research, involvement in research process, publications in peer reviewed journals and more.
Excellence in Teaching Award: Doug Moellering, Nutrition Sciences
This award is for a faculty member who exhibits success in developing effective teaching methods, courses and teaching materials that generate student learning, critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and research.
