The Blazer Mentorship Collective

Student Engagement and Enrichment seeks to provide a supportive environment for students with unmet needs on UAB’s campus. One way we accomplish this is by providing peer mentorship opportunities that allows new students to be paired with current students who have similar identities and experiences. Our mentorship opportunities create opportunities for mentees to feel supported, as well as provide peer mentors the opportunity to develop as student leaders on campus.

The Blazer Mentorship Collective

The Blazer Mentorship Collective is a comprehensive mentorship program designed to increase retention and enhance the holistic well-being and success of at-risk students. The program offers need-based and matriculation mentorship. Students in the peer mentor branch are partnered with a returning student to provide information on navigating the collegiate experience inside and outside of the classroom.

Program Objectives

  • To empower students to succeed through need-based and matriculation mentorship.
  • To improve student access through connections to essential campus resources.
  • To foster intentional relationship-building and networking opportunities between students, faculty, and staff.
  • To provide educational assistance through partnerships with campus academic services.
  • To promote well-being and belonging for students through social support programs and specialized mental health and wellness initiatives.
  • To expand students’ perspectives on their external environment through community involvement and excursion experiences.
