There are fewer people on campus after 5 p.m. most days, and you may think parking in any open space is allowed – but beware you might still get a ticket.
“Our campus is a thriving community of students, faculty, and staff that learn and work at all different times of the day and week,” said André Davis, Director of UAB Transportation. “We are here to serve our customers and ensure they have space to park in their zones, which is why we strictly enforce in a few areas after 5 p.m. and on the weekends.”
With two exceptions, employees, students, and visitors are allowed to park in any non-gated lot and deck between 5 p.m. and 5 a.m., Monday through Friday, and anytime on the weekends or on designated holidays. The two exceptions are Zone A and Zone 7, which are enforced 24-hours per day.
All other parking restrictions are in effect 24/7, including visitor spaces, no parking zones and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessible spaces. This means Blazer Circle, visitor parking at the Collat School of Business, and parking behind Heritage Hall are monitored by enforcement staff at all times.
“These areas are often abused by visitors and students because they don’t think the areas are monitored,” Davis said. “We want to ensure everyone is aware of the rules, and that our campus can be easily accessed by emergency personnel. This is especially true in the Blazer Circle area.”
