Parking permits for the summer semester and the 2020-21 academic year will be available for purchase beginning April 1st. You can find a full list of permit options, as well as pricing, on the Student Rates page.
The rates are increasing this year, in line with the comprehensive transportation plan created in 2016. The plan was created to manage existing and future demand, create a more fiscally sustainable transportation system and improve customer service for the entire enterprise – UAB and UAB Medicine – that is compatible with the campus master plan.
UAB Transportation will continue to offer the zone options that were introduced in 2019. You have the option to choose among seven zones, with Zones B through G available to all students and Zones A & 7 reserved for housing students. Permits are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. You are encouraged to apply early to ensure your desired zone is still available, as exchanges may not be possible.
“The new zone system has reduced the number of complaints our department receives, while increasing the number of students that have said they like the new system,” said André Davis, Director of UAB Transportation. “We are always looking for ways to improve our transportation system, and this is one way we’ve done that.”
If you are unable to purchase a parking permit in your preferred zone, UAB Transportation encourages you to consider developing parking arrangements or options other than bringing a vehicle to campus. Non-driving options include using public transit, carpooling, ride-hailing apps, or moving closer to campus in order to bike or walk.
