UAB Transportation has partnered with TransLoc to provide a comprehensive transportation services app to faculty, staff and students. TransLoc – which replaces DoubleMap and TapRide – will provide real-time tracking of all Blazer Express buses and requesting capabilities for on-demand services, Safety Escort and Blaze Ride. The transition will be effective July 1st.
“Our goal is to streamline services for our customers by reducing the number of applications they need to request our services,” said Brian Atkinson, executive director of UAB Transportation. “TransLoc will be a vital tool for our campus community, ensuring they can efficiently plan their trips across campus.”
The free application can be downloaded from the Apple App and Google Play stores. Once downloaded, users will need to select UAB from the list of available Agency Preferences options. Instructions can be found on the UAB Transportation website.
The Blazer Express Transit System provides Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant transportation across the UAB campus and medical district. Students, employees, and authorized visitors can enjoy fare-free bus transportation along designated routes. A valid UAB ID badge or visitor pass is required upon boarding.
Safety Escort provides late-night, on-demand van service for UAB students and employees 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. every day. UAB students and employees must present their UAB ID badge to be transported. Visitors will be allowed to use the service when accompanied by a card-carrying student or employee.
Blaze Ride offers additional service for employees or students with limited mobility between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. This service does require students to register with Disability Support Services and employees to work with the AWARE Disability Management program.
The UAB Transportation office is open weekdays 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except during UAB designated holidays. If you have questions or specific transportation needs, contact UAB Transportation at 205-934-3513 or
