CORD programs reach more than 40,000 students and 2,000 teachers each year. |
After a summer in the gene pool, it’s much easier for a child to imagine life as a scientist. UAB’s Center for Community OutReach Development (CORD) uses summer camps and other interactive programs to give Alabama students a close look at the thrills science careers can offer.
Through the center’s programs, UAB faculty and more than 200 student facilitators provide area K-12 students and teachers with hands-on experiences in molecular and cellular biology, math, computer sciences, and engineering. CORD’s initiatives are increasing the number of well-prepared students entering UAB’s schools—and teaching current UAB students how to light the science spark in future generations.
