As one of UAB’s core mission pillars, community engagement is part of the university’s DNA. And the Benevolent Fund takes a leading role in creating and nurturing partnerships within the community. Those collaborations have ranged from outdoor classrooms to hospital family rooms and from affordable housing to nonprofit funding.
Habitat for Humanity
The organization has built more than 65 homes for UAB employees and students over the last decade. UAB has collaborated to build seven Habitat homes through the Benevolent Fund.
Red Mountain Park
More than 600 UAB volunteers spent 2,400-plus hours creating four outdoor classrooms at Red Mountain Park.
Ronald McDonald Family Room
Located in the UAB Women’s and Infants Center, the room provides respite for families whose children are hospitalized at UAB.
Designation Nonprofits
UAB employees can designate their financial support to more than 100 local nonprofits.
