Research Clusters
Our research is organized into multiple core clusters: Cyber Security, Biomedical Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, AI Research and Collaboration, and Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (IoT, Cloud).
State-of-the-art cyberinfrastructure is essential to support modern scientific research and industrial innovation. Our faculty and students are leading the development of such technologies including secure Internet of Things; reliable, secure, and scalable cloud-based storage systems; programming environments to support heterogeneous architectures; and middleware and runtime systems for exascale systems.
Artificial intelligence together with the need to manage the enormous volume, velocity, and variety of data around us is critical to interacting with our information-based society. Our AI and data science research focuses on intelligent processing and making sense of such data. We work on artificial intelligence and its applications, machine learning, scalability, parallel computing, grid computing, cloud computing, data mining, text mining, information fusion, data visualization, and big data analytics for forensics, cybercrime, cyberbullying, and biomedical applications.
Computing is fundamental for the analysis of the complex datasets generated by biology and medicine. We work on algorithmic solutions for understanding such data. This work includes clinical information extraction, shape modeling, image/video processing, modeling of the optic nerve head, and scientific visualization.
Protecting cyber-infrastructures from attacks and criminal activities is paramount to our society. Our cybersecurity research takes a holistic approach to studying the nuts and bolts of cyberattacks and building transformative solutions that can prevent, detect, and recover from these attacks.
