Slavery is a tie that binds blacks and dissidents in pre-revolution Russia
Black immigrants who called Russia home in the early 1800s later laid the foundation for communism's appeal among black Americans, while Russian authors wrote about U.S. slavery to vent about European despotism, says assistant professor of English Jessie Dunbar, Ph.D., who is writing a book on the subject.

SPIES Research Wins High School Student Accolades
Dr. Saxena and Maliheh Shirvanian of the SPIES research group worked with high school student Summer Vo on security research this past year. Vo won third place at the 2017 Central Alabama Regional Science and Engineering Fair (CARSEF) in the Computer Science and Mathematics category and was awarded the INTEL Excellence in Computer Science Outstanding Achievement.
