A minor is often a great way to round out your studies by adding an additional “dimension” to your undergraduate experience. If you already have a major but want to learn more about politics or public service, then a minor in political science may be a great fit for you.
The Department of Political Science and Public Administration offers the following minors to undergraduate students:
- Political Science
- International Studies
- Human Rights
- Legal Affairs
- Women's and Gender Studies
- Public Management and Policy
More information about these minors can be found in the UAB Course Catalog
A Political Science major can work well with a wide variety of minors, though there are several that are particularly popular among our majors. For example if you plan to go into the legal profession you may be interested in a Legal Affairs minor, which offers additional courses related to law as well as skills for successfully navigating law school. If you want to broaden your knowledge of human rights, or learn more about gender and women’s issues, you could add a minor in Human Rights or Women’s and Gender Studies. If you are interested in working abroad or want to expand your expertise in international issues, then a minor in International Studies may be good for you.
