Postdoctoral fellow in the Translational Research for Injury Prevention Laboratory
Dr. McManus graduated from UAB with a B.S. in Psychology and Biology. He also earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from UAB. His thesis work examined sustained attention and driving performance in commercial truck drivers, and his dissertation work studied the impact of sleep, activity, and stress on driving performance in medical residents.
Dr. McManus’ work primarily focuses on occupational populations whose work may impact sleep and cognitive factors (e.g., attention) which, in turn, impact driving safety. His interests include use of actigraphy, eye tracking, and driving simulation programming. He is currently working on a NIH-funded R01 exploring longitudinal driving attention development in adolescents in Dr. Despina Stavrinos’ TRIP laboratory.
