Mel, a native of Northport, AL, joined the UAB Department of Theatre in 2005. She was formerly Executive Director for the statewide organization The Alabama Conference of Theatre and Artistic Director of the MEL-O-DRAMA Children’s Performing Arts Workshop in Tuscaloosa. Part of her duties for UAB Theatre include booking and coordinating the touring companies, grant writing, organizing special events and creating promotional media. Mel has directed several productions for Birmingham Festival Theatre and Theatre Downtown.
