What: An eight-week, case-based course, utilizing the National Institute of Health’s Collaboration and Team Science Field Guide, 2nd Edition, along with included brief case studies to help scientists learn the basics of team science and collaboration as well as how to navigate the challenges of working in interdisciplinary teams.Why: Interdisciplinary efforts are becoming more critical for scientific discovery and translational research efforts, and through this program, participants will learn tips and techniques to effectively develop, lead, and manage teams.Who: Open to investigators at the faculty, graduate & postgraduate level across the CCTS Partner Network. Participants may register as an individual or as a team. -

Joel Dobbs, PharmD, MPH
Dr. Dobbs is an experienced life sciences executive with over 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. He has served in a variety of senior leadership roles in information technology as well as general management, clinical research, regulatory affairs, post marketing surveillance, academia and consulting. Dr. Dobbs has served as a member of the top-tier executive team for organizations in startup, rapid-growth, turnaround, merger, integration and change phases. He currently serves as Executive in Residence at the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Collat School of Business where he also co-directs the Healthcare Leadership Academy, teaches, and works with entrepreneurs within the UAB environment and the greater Birmingham business community to help them develop and grow their businesses. He is also CEO and President of The Compass Talent Management Group LLC, a consulting firm that assists organizations with the identification and development of key talent and with designing organizational strategies and structures to maximize their ability to compete in the business worlds of today and tomorrow. -
