Collaborative Magic In Teamwork

The 2024 Interprofessional Symposium: Collaborative magic in Teamwork was held in the UAB School of Nursing on Friday, July 26, 2024.
68 attendees from five different institutions participated in Arts in Medicine Breakouts, Panel Discussions and discovered new activities to enhance their teaching of Interprofessional teamwork.

The Keynote Address "Magical Collaboration" was given by Gavin Jenkins, PhD, OTR/L, ATP.

Gavin Jenkins and the UAB Occupational Therapy Program work with Dr. Kevin Spencer to provide magic camps for disabled children. Click here for an article about that program.

UAB Arts in Medicine Program provided four breakouts demonstrating the breadth of non-clinical interventions that are available in our health system.

The sessions were:

• Art Therapy
• Dance Therapy
• Music Therapy
• Writing Therapy

A panel from the UAB Sparks clinics presented how their Interprofessional team provides excellent patient care.

The day concluded with everyone participating in new (to them) team building activities that they can take back to their classes.
