How to Apply for Admission
After completing the interview process, go to the UAB Graduate School Application to complete and submit your online application. You will need the following to complete the application:
A UAB Account
When you begin the Graduate School application, you will create your account and receive a confirmation email.

References
Three letters of recommendation are required. Please ask the individuals from whom you request references to submit them online via the TargetX system. Electronic submission is the preferred method. If the person providing your recommendation letter prefers to mail the letter, please have the document mailed to the address of the department or program to which you are applying.

Additional Requirements for International Students
GRE scores are only required for international students who did not receive a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution. (Institution code: 1856).
International students must also submit English language proficiency test scores. For information regarding TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo English language proficiency test scores, please visit the UAB Graduate School.

Our students typically sign up for two courses per academic term, but some elect to take only one course per term.

The Master of Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering can be completed in approximately 19 months. Based on current Academic Year tuition and fees, the total estimated cost would be $26,130 plus books for students who take two courses per academic term and complete the degree in 19 months.
Admission requirements for the Master's of Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering (SE) are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited U.S. College or University, or a bachelor’s degree in a closely related science major
- No GRE/GMAT required from students with qualifying degrees from U.S. colleges or universities.

- Original transcripts from all colleges and universities attended since high school must be sent directly to the UAB Graduate School (detailed instructions are included during the online application process).
- Minimum undergraduate prerequisites or equivalent:
- Structural Analysis of Elastic Structures
- Reinforced Concrete Design
- Principles of Steel Design
- Proper computer equipment and high-speed internet direct access (learn more about equipment requirements).
- All prospective students must demonstrate intermediate computer and software proficiency and have a strong willingness to advance those skills and other forms of online communication.
- All prospective students must complete a personal live interview with the director and assistant director (in person, over the phone, or via video conferencing).

Individuals holding a bachelor’s degree in Civil and Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university, or a bachelor’s degree in a closely related science, who would benefit from an advanced degree in structural engineering such as:
