Dr. Tina Kempin-ReuterDr. Kempin Reuter, in partnership with Dr. Stacy Moak, led a program to the Maasai Mara area of Kenya in spring 2019, providing students with the opportunity to deepen their understanding of women’s rights and political structure in Africa and compare issues in Kenya to issues in the United States.

Based on the needs presented by representatives on the ground in Maasai Mara, student participants developed service learning projects that focused on women’s rights, women’s roles in society, and women’s health issues. Projects included providing reusable sanitary products and delivering lessons on adolescent health and menstrual health management to high school girls.

Dr. Kempin Reuter has been recognized with the Provost Award for Faculty Excellence in Education Abroad programming for developing and promoting programs that focus on providing students with opportunities to observe and impact human rights issues across the globe.
