Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible to serve as a senator, candidates must be enrolled master’s or doctoral students in good standing. Students pursuing professional degrees such as M.D., D.O., O.D., or D.D.S. are not eligible unless they are also enrolled in a dual Ph.D. or master’s program.
Senate
Senators are a critical part of GSG. Each senator represents their college/school at Student Body Meetings and provides updates to their school on GSG policies and events.
Senators also receive preference for GSG travel grants.
Time commitment: 2-3 hours/month

Committee Chairs
Committee Chairs are part of the GSG's Executive Committee and will meet monthly with the Executive Council. Chairs also help develop initiatives and plan events.
Time commitment: 4-6 hours/month
GSG is seeking the following committee chairs:
- Awards Officer: Manages the Professional Development and Travel Award. Acts as a member of the Budget Committee.
- Chief of Staff: Acts as the primary aide to the president, coordinating executive activities and ensuring efficient operation of the board. Manages schedules, oversees strategic initiatives, and serves as a key advisor on policy and procedural matters.
- Communications & Marketing Chair: Manages all communications and marketing efforts to promote the graduate organization’s events, initiatives, and image. Utilizes various platforms including social media, newsletters, and public relations to reach a broad audience effectively.
- Community Service Chair: Leads the development and execution of community service projects and volunteer efforts. Aims to enhance civic engagement among graduate students and to make a positive impact on the local community.
- Health & Wellness Chair: Promotes health and wellness initiatives within the graduate community through workshops, seminars, and health screenings. Focuses on mental, physical, and emotional health to enhance student life and academic performance.
- International Student Liaison: Serves as a bridge between the international student community and the university, providing support, resources, and guidance to enhance the overall experience and integration of international students.
- Orientation & Involvement Chair: Organizes orientation events and involvement programs designed to welcome new graduate students and encourage their active participation in graduate student organizations.
- Parliamentarian/Constitution Chair: Ensures that student body meetings run in accordance with the organization’s bylaws and established parliamentary procedures. Assists in the planning and execution of meetings, maintaining order and resolving disputes over procedural matters ensuring the constitution is up to date and functions to serve the student body.
- Professional Development & Leadership Chair: Coordinates programs and workshops that focus on career development, leadership skills, and professional growth for graduate students.
- Social Activities Chair: Plans, organizes, and executes social events and gatherings to foster community and camaraderie among graduate students.
- Student Advocacy Chair: Advocates for the rights and well-being of all graduate students, with a particular focus on mental health support, academic resources, and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
- Webmaster: Updates the GSG website. Must have experience in Joomla and HTML/CSS.
Committee Members
Committee members help support committee chairs in planning events, developing initiatives, and being extensions of the GSG Executive Committee.
Time commitment: 1-2 hours/month - some months committees will not meet or have events
GSG is seeking the following committee members:
- Communications and Marketing Committee member: Develops and implements communication and marketing strategies to promote GSG initiatives and engage graduate students.
- Community Service Committee member: Organizes and coordinates community service events and projects, allowing graduate students to impact the local community positively.
- Parliamentarian/Constitution Committee member: Collaborates on the development, review, and amendment of the GSG constitution to ensure its alignment with the needs and interests of graduate students.
- Health & Wellness Committee member: Promotes the well-being and health of graduate students by organizing wellness challenges, mental health awareness campaigns, and educational workshops tailored to their needs.
- Orientation & Involvement Committee member: Organizes orientation events and involvement programs designed to welcome new graduate students and encourage their active participation in graduate student organizations.
- Professional Development and Leadership Committee member: Facilitates opportunities for professional growth, skill development, and leadership training for graduate students through workshops, seminars, and networking events.
- Social Activities Committee member: Plans and executes social events and activities tailored to the interests and preferences of graduate students, fostering a sense of community and connection.
- Student Advocacy Committee member: Works to represent and address the needs and concerns of graduate students, fostering a supportive and inclusive academic environment, with a particular focus on mental health support, academic resources, and overall well-being.
