    UAB Child Development Center

    • AGES: 6 weeks to 6 years
    • WHEN: Open year-round, 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
    • INFO: NAEYC accredited and state licensed childcare center managed by KinderCare for UAB employees and students.

    UAB is a corporate sponsor with three childcare centers located in the Birmingham area.

    First Church Early Learning Center

    • INFO: Available to UAB employees and provides UAB with six annual slots. Families are eligible for one slot per family, per year. UAB’s Office of the Senior Vice-President for Finance and Administration maintains a list of those interested in one of the slots.

    The Harris Early Learning Center

    • INFO: Available to UAB employees and provides UAB with six annual slots. Families may only receive one slot per family, per year. UAB’s Office of the Senior Vice-President for Finance and Administration maintains a list of those interested in one of the slots.

    • INFO: KinderCare offers a 10% discount for UAB employees and students who have children enrolled at any of their non-UAB locations.

    Support for UAB Parents & Families

    UAB provides a variety of resources to support employees who are pregnant or expecting, new parents, and those raising a family. Explore the Support for UAB Parents & Families webpage for information on leaves of absence, UAB-sponsored benefits, important policies, and available tools and services designed to help you successfully balance your work life and home life.


    Childcare Search Resources

    • Childcare Resources: This Birmingham nonprofit provides a free database of childcare facilities in Jefferson County and the City of Birmingham.
    • Wyndy: Wyndy is a Birmingham-based babysitting app that serves more than 18,000 families and is available to help UAB employees and residents to book a sitter. Parents can post any job for free, and then select from sitters who express interest in the job.


    Alternate Work Options Program

    The University of Alabama at Birmingham strives to offer its employees work environments that are flexible and engaging, thereby sustaining a culture that supports individual wellbeing and work-life balance. The University has developed an Alternate Work Options Program to assist with providing flexibility of work locations (for eligible positions) and scheduling based on the needs of the department, our students and the areas served.
