Karen joined the team as a Licensing Associate in 2020 with an extensive background in life sciences and academic research. Karen received her Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis i(France). Karen joined UAB as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics. Before joining HIIE, Karen was a Research Assistant Professor in the UAB Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. Karen’s research focused on mechanisms of lung injury-repair, with a particular interest in the role of mitochondrial bioenergetics and metabolic reprogramming in the etiology of pulmonary fibrosis. Karen is also a graduate of the UAB Collat School of Business, where she received a Master’s degree in Accounting in August 2020. Her pastimes include taking care of her family, spending time with friends, traveling, and the outdoors.
