Program Director of Community Engagement

Grace C. Okoro graduated from Samford University in May 2016 with a BA in Psychology and in December 2018 with a Master of Public Health.

She started her public health career in October 2018 as an Environmental Health Specialist at the Jefferson County DepartmeGrace Okoro Headshotnt of Health (JCDH). She served as the Tobacco Cessation Coordinator for the Community Health Division. During that time, she represented JCDH and worked collaboratively with representatives from several health-focused organizations to establish the Health District: a program to encourage a smoke-free environment supported by a City of Birmingham ordinance to promote health and wellness of patients, employees, students, and visitors. The experience prepared and cultivated skills needed for her current role as program manager of Community Engagement at the UAB MHERC. Throughout her time at UAB, Grace has gained experience in community outreach, program development, and strategic planning. Grace’s current projects includes initiatives to decrease the incidence of chronic disease in Alabama and eliminate barriers to making good health simple.
