Pathways 516811023

Pathways in Academic Medicine is a curriculum designed to introduce internal medicine residents and fellows to the various opportunities in academic medicine. During Pathways, you will discover the various options for academic careers as well as the steps to pursue an academic career. Pathways is designed to help you choose between private practice and academics and to expose you to the concepts and resources needed to jump start an academic career.

Who Should Attend?

If you are a resident thinking about applying for jobs or fellowship, or a fellow contemplating future career options, this course is for you! As you go on interviews, you will be asked to explain how you think your career will unfold. You will need to think about whether you want a career in academics, and if you do, what that might look like.

Retreat

This year, we will host two retreats in Boshell Diabetes Building Room 445, with the same content to accommodate resident & fellow schedules. We will discuss the roles and duties of Clinician Educators and Clinician Investigators, and what each looks like in practice. We will learn about finding an academic niche, and will wrap up with everyone's favorite part - a panel discussing the differences in a career in academic medicine and a career in private practice.
