The Department of Medicine (DOM) and the DOM Research Excellence Advancement and Mentoring Council (DREAM Council) recognize that diversity among investigators promotes diversity in research and, ultimately, clinical care. We therefore seek to promote and provide flexible support for people from backgrounds that are underrepresented in medicine who are considering or pursuing a research career.
Groups that have been traditionally excluded from research and medicine face ongoing and amplified structural and systemic barriers to success in research. With this award, we also seek to increase DOM mentors’ skills in supporting underrepresented individuals who are pursuing research careers.
