The Alabama Vaccine Research Clinic (AVRC) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham is a component of the Division of Infectious Diseases with UAB's Department of Medicine. Founded in 1994, the AVRC is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is the local site for the HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN)--an international effort to find and test an HIV vaccine that will work safely in diverse populations worldwide.
The AVRC is dedicated to working with our local community to provide HIV vaccine education and research for people who are interested in joining the fight against the HIV epidemic in the United States and abroad. Though finding a safe and effective vaccination for HIV is our primary goal, we also know that many other diseases are treatable and preventable by utilizing vaccinations; thus, we are also committed to clinical studies that are not HIV-related.
