Graduate Biomedical Studies Doctoral Program
Immunology is one of eight interdisciplinary PhD themes within Graduate Biomedical Sciences (GBS). Students select a theme upon application but have access to faculty and courses from across GBS, allowing for flexibility in both research and academics. Students interested in immunology can apply from many of the themes within GBS. Go to GBS Themes to find out more about what themes are offered at UAB GBS.
PhD candidates in Immunology can apply for positions on NIH-supported T32 training grants. UAB currently holds 17 T32 training grants, including one large program that focuses specifically and comprehensively on the field of immunology. The UAB T32 Training Program in Immunologic Diseases and Basic Immunology has been in existence since 1976. For more than 45 years the preceptors and graduates of the program have made major contributions to the research and training programs of the participating departments and units at UAB. During this time, more than 150 predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees have been supported by the Immunology T32 with the majority going on to pursue academic careers in immunology. Trainees supported by the Immunology T32 are required to attend the Program in Immunology Seminar Series and a professional development course.
Medical Scientist Training Program
The UAB MD-PHD Program was created in 1987 and was designated a Medical Scientist Training Program by the National Institutes of Health in 1991. After completing the first two years of the medical school curriculum, MD-PHD students choose a GBS PhD theme and mentor for their PhD program.
HSOM AMC21 Awards Program
