Lewis Barr, a first-year Ph.D. student within the Graduate Biomedical Sciences (GBS) program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been selected for a pre-doctoral fellowship on the T32 Training Program in Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology Training Grant (CMB TG).
This T32 grant, a five-year training initiative funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), aims to foster development in basic cell, molecular and developmental processes vital for multicellular organisms. Funding was awarded to UAB under the directorship of Susan Bellis, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Cell, Developmental and Integrative Biology.
Barr is a member of the research lab of Department of Neurosurgery Assistant Professor Satoru Osuka, M.D., Ph.D. The Osuka lab has a main research focus on understanding the mechanisms of therapeutic resistance in malignant brain tumors, like glioblastoma and medulloblastoma.
Currently, Barr is participating in the Graduate Biomedical Sciences (GBS) program’s Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology (CMDB) theme, which is one of eight interdisciplinary themes within the GBS.
This training grant not only prepares its recipients for impactful careers in research and academia but also underscores UAB’s ongoing investment in innovative medical research and education.
