As a communications director in the UAB School of Medicine, Carter leads and executes communications strategy in medical education and for the school’s regional campuses in Huntsville and Montgomery.

Before joining UAB in 2013, Carter worked as a staff writer at Alabama newspapers for 5 years, then shifted her career focus from journalism to communications and public relations. She has a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Auburn University and a master’s degree in public administration from UAB.

The School of Medicine held its Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 22 at Bartow Arena. Selwyn M. Vickers, M.D., FACS, senior vice president for Medicine and dean of the School of Medicine, welcomed the 182 graduates and their families to the 2021 ceremony.
Physician leader Louis R. Lambiase, M.D., has been tapped to lead the Montgomery Regional Medical Campus. He will officially join UAB on December 1.

Christina Grabowski, Ph.D., associate dean for Admissions and Enrollment Management, recently assumed the role of chair of the Association of American Medical Colleges Southern Group on Student Affairs.

To comply with capacity limits, only those guests on the lists submitted by students in advance will be allowed to enter Bartow Arena. Commencement will be streamed live online.

Eliseo J. Pérez-Stable, M.D., director of the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) at the National Institutes of Health, virtually presented "Diversity and Inclusion in Clinical Medicine in the Times of COVID" at the annual S. Rexford Kennamer Lecture.

The School of Medicine is partnering with Oakwood University for a new Early Assurance Program, offering qualified students early acceptance to the School of Medicine, along with shadowing and research opportunities.

Steffane Battle, M.D., has been named the chair of the Department of Pediatrics at the UAB School of Medicine’s Huntsville Regional Medical Campus. She will begin her role on April 1. 

As a part of our LCME accreditation review, the School of Medicine is required to demonstrate our faculty scholarly activity. An essential piece of documentation is a table that reports a total number of journal publications and book chapters for the calendar year 2021.
