Gifts from philanthropic partners help us deliver exceptional patient care and advance research and clinical trials for all forms of NF.
An international leader in NF research, the UAB NF Program is dedicated to understanding the genetic mechanisms involved in NF to develop therapies that restore function to the mutated NF1 gene or gene product. This includes testing new drug treatments as well as approaches such as gene editing or gene replacement.
Previous gifts from philanthropic partners have supported a range of initiatives that include:
- Testing potential treatments for specific NF mutations
- Supporting faculty scholar positions for NF research to ensure recruitment and retention of top-level scientists
- Advancing preclinical research for genome-guided therapeutics with the goal of restoring function to the mutated NF1 gene or gene product
- Developing animal models with patient-specific mutations to test the effectiveness of potential treatments
