Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Nurse Practitioner Andrea Boohaker, MSN, has been selected as a 2021 recipient of the UAB Medicine Excellence Award– one of the highest honors that a UAB employee can receive.
Below are just a few attributes and qualities that are considered when receiving this award:
- Provided outstanding service to their specific department or division
- Showed willingness to assist beyond normal expectations
- Sought ways to continuously improve satisfaction and remove barriers when providing services to members of the university community
- Looked for creative approaches to provide/improve services that increase efficiency and effectiveness or developed a solution to a difficult existing problem, through a new method or approach
- Suggested and worked toward implementation of new services
“Andrea meets all of the above criteria and then some,” said Steven Theiss, M.D., John D. Sherrill Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery. “Andrea is deserving of this award, and we are fortunate to have her in Orthopaedics. She is one of the many bright stars in our department and represents orthopaedics well within our institution and also to our patients.”
Boohaker is honored to have been both nominated and selected among a small group of UAB Medicine physicians and staff.
“This is such a huge honor,” said Boohaker. “Every day, I focus on providing our patients with the highest level of care. We have the best faculty, staff, and trainees here in the UAB Department of Orthopaedics, and it is an honor to work alongside them to always look for ways to improve our clinic while supporting our educational and academic missions.”
