The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery congratulates Nurse Practitioner Andrea Boohaker, DNP, ACNP-BC, who graduated with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) from UAB in December 2021.
Boohaker began pursuing her doctorate in 2019. Her DNP project, “Improving Intent to Stay and Well-Being Among Novice Nurse Practioners in a Large Academic Medical System: A Quality Improvement Project,” was chaired by Ashley Hodges.
Boohaker has a track record of reaching higher in her profession and supporting excellent patient care across the department. In early 2021, she was selected as a recipient of the UAB Medicine Excellence Award– one of the highest honors that a UAB employee can receive.
Plus earlier this year, she presented at the National Nurse Practitioner Symposium in Keystone, Colorado. Her presentation was one that is closely tied to her studies and her DNP project.
Shortly after her graduation ceremony, the department surprised Boohaker with a graduation party. Department administration celebrated by having cake and punch, and members of the department brought Boohaker gifts of congratulations.
“We are very proud of Andrea as she concludes this rigorous program,” said Steven Theiss, M.D., John D. Sherrill Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery. “She has continually demonstrated her leadership and service to the department and to our patients. I look forward to seeing her apply her new knowledge and skills. I’m sure she will continue to excel.”
