Drs. Eugene Brabston, Aaron Casp, Thomas Evely, and Amit Momaya, faculty members in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and current UAB Orthopaedic Surgery resident Dr. Collier Campbell are authors of a recently published article titled “Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction With Quadriceps Tendon Autograft: Surgical Technique Using Augmentation With a Biocomposite Scaffold.”
This article, published in Arthroscopy Techniques, describes the augmentation of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using BioBrace– a “biocomposite scaffold that both mechanically reinforces the graft while biologically enhancing graft healing.”
The article includes a video and detailed figures to demonstrate each stage of the surgical technique. The authors state that their “hope is that BioBrace augmentation of ACL grafts will enhance both the biology of the graft in addition to providing some strength early on during its healing and revascularization process.”
