The department is pleased to welcome Assistant Professors Abhinav Agarwal, MBBS, and Aaron Casp, M.D., to the sections of trauma and sports medicine, respectively.
Agarwal completed his medical school, residency, and fellowship at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). While at AIIMS, Agarwal also completed a Master of Surgery in orthopedics and served as a senior research fellow on the Pediatric Bone Sarcoma Surveillance Project.
Following his time at AIIMS, Agarwal joined the UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in 2017 as a trauma fellow. He then became the foot and ankle fellow in 2019, and served in that capacity until joining the foot and ankle section as a faculty member.
Casp completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Virginia, graduated from medical school at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University.
Casp completed his sports medicine fellowship at the Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, CO. During this fellowship, he treated elite athletes from the high school level to the NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLS. He traveled to Austria to provide medical coverage to the U.S Ski Team athletes, and was also responsible for the care of athletes from all over the world at the FIS Snowboard and Freeski World Championships in Aspen, CO.
In his spare time, Dr. Casp enjoys woodworking, hiking, golfing, physical training, and spending time with his wife and two young sons.
“We’re honored to welcome these two talented faculty to the department,” said Steven Theiss, M.D., John D. Sherrill Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery. “Both faculty members bring a unique skill set and experience with them, and we look forward to supporting their careers and watching them excel.”
