The department is pleased to welcome Thomas Evely, D.O., to the Sports Medicine Section as an assistant professor.
Thomas Evely, D.O. is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and shoulder reconstruction. He focuses on the surgical and non-surgical management of shoulder, elbow and knee injuries is patients of all ages.
His clinical interests include shoulder arthritis and replacements, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability and dislocations, and knee meniscus and ligament injuries.
Evely grew up in Erwin, Tennessee where he graduated from East Tennessee State University with a bachelor’s degree in public health. He then attended medical school at VCOM-VT in Blacksburg, VA. He returned to East Tennessee State University where he completed his orthopedic surgery residency.
After residency, Evely completed a sports medicine and shoulder fellowship at Plancher Orthopedics and Sports Medicine based in New York, NY and Greenwich, CT. During fellowship, he was able to train with shoulder and sports medicine surgeons in New York, Connecticut, Memphis, Vail, and the University of Colorado throughout the year.
Chief of the Sports Medicine Section Amit Momaya, M.D., is looking forward to all that Dr. Evely will accomplish at UAB.
“Dr. Evely is a wonderful addition to our team, and we are glad that he is here,” said Momaya. “He has already hit the ground running taking great care of our sports medicine patients, and we are watching for all that he will accomplish during this career at UAB.”
