The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery welcomes incoming trauma surgeon Joseph “Joey” Johnson, M.D., as an assistant professor.
Johnson completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia and received his medical doctorate from Emory University School of Medicine. While in medical school in 2009, Johnson appeared on Jeopardy! in 2009, as a medical student. Though he hung on to second place for most of the game, Johnson ultimately finished in third place following the final Jeopardy! Round.
Following residency at Brown University, Johnson completed his orthopedic trauma fellowship at Brown University/Rhode Island Hospital. On graduating, he was selected to complete an AO International Orthopedic Trauma fellowship at Leeds General Infirmary, in Leeds, UK.
Johnson treats all facets of orthopedic trauma, including both acute and chronic pathology. His specific clinical interests include pelvic and acetabular fractures, nonunions and malunions and peri-articular fracture care.
His research interests include the management of open fractures, the appropriate treatment of geriatric hip fractures and the biomechanics of fracture healing. He joins us after working at Loma Linda University Medical Center as the head of orthopedic trauma.
