Former research fellow Eli Levitt, M.S., published “What are the Risk Factors for Infection after Operative Treatment of Peritalar Fracture Dislocations?” in the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma.
The objective of the study was to assess the risk factors associated with deep infection after operative treatment of peritalar fracture dislocations, which are rare, disabling foot injuries. Authors performed a retrospective study to identify patients who had operative treatment of a peritalar fracture dislocation over an 11-year period (2008-2019).
In their results, researchers identified several risk factors for infection after peritalar fracture dislocation which included older age, smoking, and Gustilo-Anderson type 3 open fracture.
