This month, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery said “goodbye” to its six outgoing residents who will leave UAB for their next career steps, taking them across the nation.
As part of this year’s resident graduation and annual Resident Research Day, the department presented residents and supporting faculty with several awards in recognition of their accomplishments.
Recipients of this year’s awards were:
- Neimann Award Outstanding Chief Resident: Scott Mabry
- Academic year 2020-2021
- Faculty Mentor of the Year: Dr. Amit Momaya
- Faculty member with the most contributions to resident research and publications academic year 2020-2021
- Researcher of the Year: Dr. Charles Pitts
- Resident with the most scholarly publications academic year 2020-2021
- John Gould Award: Dr. Walt Smith
- Outstanding junior resident academic year 2020-2021
- Clinician of the Year: Dr. Charles Pitts
- Resident with the most cases logged academic year 2020-2021
- Faculty MVP: Dr. Lisa Kafchinski
- Faculty member that attended events, supported residents, and contributed to the residency program
- Scholar of the year: Dr. Ryan McLynn
- Resident with highest OITE score academic year 2020-2021
- Neimann Award for Outstanding Faculty Member of the year: Dr. Clay Spitler
- Academic year 2020-2021
