Last month, the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery said “goodbye” to its six outgoing residents who will leave UAB for fellowship programs at different institutions across six different states throughout the country. As part of this year’s resident graduation and annual Resident Research Day, the department presented the Class of 2019 with several awards in recognition of their accomplishments.
Recipients of this year’s awards were:
- Kurt M.W. Niemann Award for Outstanding Senior Resident: Bradley Wills, M.D.
- Kurt M.W. Niemann Award for Outstanding Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty: Michael Conklin, M.D.
- Outstanding Didactics Award: Jason Pittman, M.D.
- John Gould Award for Outstanding Professional Leadership Qualities as an Orthopaedic Surgery Junior Resident: Adam Almaguer, M.D.
- Outstanding Research Award: Evan Sheppard, M.D., and Bradley Wills, M.D.
Both resident graduation and the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery’s Annual Resident Research Day, held on June 21, were attended by visiting professor John "Jack" Flynn, M.D., of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
