Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Assistant Professor Erin Ransom, M.D., alongside fellow hand surgeons Michael Smith, M.D., Kathleen McKeon, M.D., and Grady Maddox, M.D., have launched the Southeast Orthopedic Hand Society.
The Southeast Orthopedic Hand Society will host their first annual meeting at the 2022 Alabama Orthopedic Society (AOS) on May 19.
The meeting will consist of presentations from UAB and the University of South Alabama fellows and residents. It will also include impactful group discussions and sessions like “New techniques in Hand Surgery.” The feature keynote speaker for the society’s inaugural meeting will be Joseph Sherrill, M.D., former faculty member with the UAB Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
According to Ransom, the Southeast Orthopedic Hand Society is an ideal platform for orthopaedic hand surgeons to collaborate, network, and share knowledge about complex cases and grow together as surgeons. She notes that all Alabama and Mississippi hand surgeons are invited and welcome.
“I am thrilled to be able to launch this society alongside my expert colleagues in orthopaedic hand surgery,” said Ransom. “It is an honor to represent UAB Orthopaedics on this national stage, and I look forward to all of the opportunities that this society creates for our field.”
