UAB orthopaedic surgery resident Scott Mabry, M.D., is taking home both top spots in this year’s Alabama Orthopaedic Society Chestley L. Yelton Resident Essay Competition.
His paper, “Does surgeon fellowship training influence outcomes in hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fracture?,” received first place in the annual competition, while another one of his projects, “Comparison of direct anterior to posterior approach for total hip arthroplasty in femoral neck fractures,” received second place.
As the primary presenter for these papers, Mabry will receive two cash awards totaling $2,500 from the AOS and will have the opportunity to present his winning projects during the Alabama, Mississippi and Florida Orthopaedic Societies 2019 Regional Meeting in Destin, Florida. Mabry will be recognized for these awards at the close of the meeting’s scientific session on May 18.
These two papers also feature orthopaedic surgery resident Jeff Pearson, M.D., in their author lists, alongside Assistant Professor Elie Ghanem, M.D., who served as both projects’ principal investigator. Assistant Professor Johnathan Quade, M.D., and resident Thompson McMurtrie, M.D., were also listed as co-authors on the second-prize paper.
