John D. Sherrill Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery Steven Theiss, M.D., has assumed the role of chair of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Membership Committee.
In his role as Chair of The Membership Committee, Theiss will serve a one-year term and will also serve on the Executive Committee as well as the Board of Directors.
Theiss will lead the efforts of the committee to recruit and review new members for the AOA. Membership in the AOA is an earned membership that comes at the end of a stringent peer-reviewed process. Fewer than 10 percent of practicing orthopaedic surgeons have achieved AOA Membership.
“I am looking forward to support the mission, vision, and direction of the AOA through the selection of top-notch candidates,” said Theiss. “It is an honor to represent the department on this national stage.”
The AOA is an orthopaedic surgery organization that equips orthopaedic surgeons with knowledge and skills necessary to lead effectively in the ever-changing landscape of the health care environment. Through its diverse constituency of orthopaedic leaders, the AOA focuses on leadership, academic, and critical issues associated with the specialty.
