Fourteen of this year’s UAB and UAB HSF service award recipients are Department of Orthopaedic Surgery faculty or staff, 10 of whom are now celebrating at least 20 years of service at the university or the hospital. Of those 10, about half were formally recognized at the 2019 UAB Service Awards Program luncheon for non-hospital employees in March.

Leading the department this year was Associate Professor Richard Meyer, M.D., with 40 years of service, followed by Clisby S. Jones and Mary E. Shepherd with 30 years and 35 years, respectively. 

Two others from the department, Michael Conklin, M.D., and Karla D. Corbitt, each received awards for 25 years of service, and another five were honored for their 20 years: Anjanette Aaron Harris, Mary A. Chiaranda, Angelisa Dale, Tiffany Guy and Mark Kunkel, DPM.

Shawn Gilbert, M.D., and Michael Goodwin also each received awards for their 15 years of service, while two others celebrated their first-ever service awards this year after reaching the five-year mark: Judy Hudson and Michael Johnson, M.D.

Meyer, Jones, Conklin and Johnson are the only honorees who have spent the entirety of their service years here with UAB Orthopaedics.
