B. Represents 1% of primary ovarian tumors

D. No association with MEN 1

Discussion:

Answer D.
This case illustrates a carcinoid tumor arising from a mature cystic teratoma.  The tumor is thought to arise from the intestinal type epithelium of the mature cystic teratoma. Immunohistochemical stains for CAM 5.2, synpatophysin and chromogranin are positive in the carcinoid component.  Generally the prognosis is excellent with rare exceptions. Rare association with MEN 1 has been reported.
